Japanese electronics major Pioneer Corporation has announced its decision to begin manufacturing in-car products in India starting 2026. This move follows the company’s establishment of a research and development centre in India in 2023 and signals an expansion of its presence in the fast-growing Indian automotive sector.
The new manufacturing strategy is aimed at creating a complete value chain within India by partnering with local contractors for production. However, the company has stated that it may later expand manufacturing operations to include a broader range of in-car systems for both factory-fitted use and retail sales.
India has been identified by Pioneer as a high-priority market outside of Japan. By shifting production closer to the market, Pioneer aims to reduce delivery timelines, improve flexibility in product customisation, and offer better post-sale service. The local manufacturing initiative is expected to enhance the company’s responsiveness to the specific needs of Indian automakers and improve customer satisfaction.
Shiro Yahara, President and CEO, Pioneer Corporation, statedThe shift to local production will enable us to better serve local automakers close to their home turf. It is a huge step forward for Pioneer to become one of the key players in the fast-growing Indian auto industry and to drive the growth of our global business in the long term.”
