Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited has launched its passenger 3W EV – Ape E-city FX NE Max in Tamil Nadu for an ex-showroom price of INR 3,46,240.

Though the company has been selling its e3W in the State in the cargo segment for more than a year, it received the approval for selling passenger e3W now, eventually completing its national presence of its e3Ws.

Coming with a driving range of 145 km per charge, 20% gradeability and 3+2-years / 1.75 lakh km warranty, the vehicle is offered only with a fixed battery option in Tamil Nadu as the swappable ecosystem is not available in the State.

Amit Sagar, Executive Vice President, CV Domestic Business & Retail Finance, said the company is in talks with the State Government that provides the infrastructure and the battery swapping providers to set up swapping stations in Tamil Nadu. Though he could not put a date to get the battery swapping stations operational, he said, “its like a fusion reaction,” as witnessed in several locations, including Kochi, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Vijayawada.

The company is already associated with SUN Mobility and Exicom, owned by Reliance, offering portable IP 67 batteries for E-Scooters, e-bikes, and light electric vehicles. The e3Ws with battery swapping are becoming popular as the acquisition cost is less than 40 to 50% against the fixed battery counterpart.

Beginning its journey in 2019 with the launch of e3W in the country, the company boasts over 26,000 customers, with the majority from Delhi, followed by Agra, Agartala, Bengaluru, Silchar, Kochi and Jammu.
