The Philippines has placed a formal order with India to supply BrahMos supersonic cruise missile systems, becoming the first export customer for the Mach 3 capable missile system.

The Department of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines (DND) formally entered into a contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) on Friday to supply BrahMos shore-based anti-ship missile systems.

Announcing the contract award, the Indian MoD said it was a significant step forward for India’s policy of promoting responsible defence exports.

The Philippine DND has also contracted BrahMos to undertake training for operators, maintainers and an Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) package.

BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between the Defence Research & Development Organisation and Russian missile house NPO Mashinostroyeniya (NPOM).
