British EV brand, One Moto, has lined up an aggressive plan for the Indian electric vehicle market. In 2022, the Indian entity of the company not just plans to launch multiple products, but also set-up a manufacturing unit in the country in addition to foraying into the EV charging infrastructure business.
Speaking to Mobility Outlook, Syed Faheem, Director, One Moto India confirmed that the company is working on setting up a plant in Hyderabad, which will be completed by February 2022.
By the end of next year, the company intends to be completely self-sufficient with its product portfolio. Currently, it sources components from China and the United Kingdom and assembles them in its current facility Hyderabad. Once the new facility is in place, the firm aims to manufacture the components in-house.
Product Strategy
From a product perspective, the company aims to bring to the market nine different products over the next financial year, FY23, including last mile delivery vehicles. These delivery vehicles will include an e2W, an e3W and three different e4Ws.
Faheem confirmed that the e4Ws will have a maximum payload capacity of 2 tonnes. One of these e4Ws is a global product that the company now retails in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.
On the passenger vehicles side, the company plans to launch four different e2Ws by June 2022. Faheem confirmed that two of them will be high speed scooters, while the other two will be high speed bikes. These e2Ws are designed for the Indian market and will be targeted towards the Indian market only.
He also said that one of the e-bikes is aimed at family-oriented consumers, while the other is aimed at young customers. All of these e2Ws have completed the R&D and prototyping stage and are currently being tested under various conditions.
It must be noted that One Moto is a fairly new entrant to India’s EV market. The company had commenced its India operation in November 2021 with two e-scooters, the Byka and Commuta. Priced at INR 130,000, the Commuta is powered by a 2KW QS brushless DC hub motor with a claimed top speed of 55 kmph. The 60 V 27.5 AH lithium-ion battery gives it a range of 80 km on a single charge.
The Byka, on the other hand, is equipped with a 4kW DC brushless motor, 72 V 48 Ah lithium-ion battery. The rated top speed of the scooter is 85 kmph, while on a single charge, the battery allows it to cover 150 km. The Byka is retailed at INR 180,000.
Recently, One Moto launched its third product for the Indian market – the Electra at an ex-showroom price of INR 200,000. The new product has a 72 V and 45 AH detachable lithium-ion battery that gives it a range of 150 km on a single charge, claimed the company. The vehicle is powered by a 4KW QS brushless DC hub motor, which is claimed to propel it to a top speed of 100 kmph.
Other Plans
In the current fiscal, the firm plans on entering the EV charging infrastructure market, which will include building a network of EV charging stations as well as battery swapping stations. This will be done in partnership with Ellysium Automotives, One Moto India's parent firm.
As of now, the company has tied up with two charging infrastructure manufacturers. The plan is to set up 100 charging stations and swapping stations as pilot projects in Hyderabad and Bangalore. By the end of Q1 CY22, the company aims to build its own charging and swapping stations.
With a network of 75 dealers, the company is currently available in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Pondicherry, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. It aims to add another six to eight states by the end of FY22.
