British electric two wheeler brand, One-Moto on Monday announced the signing of a MOU with the Telangana government for setting up its India manufacturing unit.

The brand plans to invest up to INR 250 crore to establish the manufacturing unit on the outskirts of Hyderabad, which has become a key market for EVs, particularly with the state government accelerating an EV revolution with supporting policies for EV production, and strong infrastructure.

One Moto said the new manufacturing plant, to be spread across 15 acres, will have major automation integration with additional semi-robotics, and latest manufacturing machinery to produce cutting edge products.

“We are determined to provide Indian customers with quality products in EVs. The idea is to manage all the production in India and cater to the growing market. We aim to manufacture at least 40,000 units in the first phase of the plant launch, and capacity will easily be taken up to 100,000 in two years,” said Sameer Moidin, Co-Founder & Partner, One Moto India.

The manufacturing plant will produce all One Moto fleet in addition to two Indian fleets that are to be introduced by Ellysium Automotives, currently promoting One Moto in India. Just about a couple of months in the Indian market, One Moto recently launched its Electa e-scooter at the EV India Expo in Greater Noida, following its earlier products, Byka and Commuta.

“With the new manufacturing plant, we not only aim to serve our customers in India but also export vehicles to other global markets that One Moto is developing. There is tremendous opportunity to create jobs in the state of Telangana not just at the manufacturing facility, but also in rural areas,” Shubhankar Chaudhry, CEO, One Moto India said.

The company also intends to set-up skill development programmes with Telangana, since EV after-sales service requires a specialised skillset. The plant will create almost 500 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs in the state.
