The new age EV manufacturing startup, Oben EV, plans to launch its debutante product Rorr in the first quarter of CY22, with deliveries starting from the second quarter.
The e-bike, which is expected to cost between INR 1-1.5 lakh, will have an ARX chassis and a fixed lithium-ion battery, giving it a claimed range of 200 kilometres on a single charge, a top speed of 100 kmph, and a claimed 0-40 kmph in three seconds. It will also come with IoT enabled features that can be controlled through smartphones.
The company claims to have raised a total of $2.5 million so far through various investors. These funds are being utilised in the product development, setting up a manufacturing plant, and building the dealership network.
The company has set up its manufacturing plant in Bangalore with a maximum production capacity of two lakh vehicles per year. It plans to reach this number gradually as the demand for the product picks up.
Furthermore, the e-bike uses components made in India, with some being made in-house. However, the cells are being imported from various international suppliers.
With a strong focus on high-speed consumer-based e2Ws, the vehicle manufacturer plans to bring in three more e2Ws, including e-bikes and e-scooters, in the next two years. At the pre-production stage, these products will currently include high-speed e-bikes and high-speed e-scooters.
