Toyota Kirloskar has unveiled the world’s first BS6 Stage-II compliant electrified flex fuel Innova Hycross designed to meet higher emission norms. Because of the strong push to transition from fossil fuels to renewables and biofuels, this vehicle will be able to run on a blend of up to 85% ethanol.
Launching the vehicle, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, noted that Alternative fuels will indeed change the whole landscape of India’s economy, and it will make not only farmers Annadattta to Urjadatta but also providers of bio-aviation fuel. He believes India will soon be the world’s first vehicle manufacturing hub of electric, ethanol, methanol, biodiesel, bio-LNG, bio-CNG and other alternative fuel vehicles.
Vikram Gulati, Country Head & Executive Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor,further focussed on the immense potential of ethanol as one of the best options in achieving energy self-reliance and reducing carbon emissions. He noted that this prototype BS6 Stage-II Electrified Flex Fuel Vehicle is designed to meet India’s higher emission norms, making it the world’s first. This milestone underscores Toyota Kirloskar Motors's dedication to advancing green mobility solutions, aligning with India's sustainable priorities.
Also present was Vijay Nirani, Managing Director, TruAlt Bioenergy, who mentioned how this is a progressive step towards mitigating carbon emissions and realising India's ambitious energy goals. At the heart of India’s sustainable energy journey lies the noteworthy contribution of the sugar and biofuel industry, which plays a pivotal role in the Ethanol Blending Programme, he added.
