Nexcharge Opens Battery Manufacturing Facility At Prantij, Gujarat

Nexcharge, a joint venture between Exide Industries and Leclanché SA of Switzerland has announced the inauguration of its manufacturing plant at Prantij in Gujarat. The facility is spread across 610,098 sq feet, with six fully automated assembly lines and testing labs, and an installed capacity of 1.5 GWh.

Nexcharge aims to cater energy storage systems for India’s electric vehicle market and grid-based applications, an official statement form the company noted.

The company has invested more than INR 250 cr in setting up the facility with a focus on technology driven innovations, the release added.

Stefan Louis, CEO & CTO, Nexcharge, said the company is on a fast-track mode to cater to the diverse segments of transportation industry and utility markets with Li-ion batteries of different chemistries assembled at its Prantij plant.

The production set-up at the Prantij facility is divided into three sections, including the module assembly that has three production lines for assembling cylindrical, pouch, and prismatic cells, and the pack assembly that has two lines for high voltage and low voltage packs, said Surender Narula, President, Nexcharge.

The FG testing section, on the other hand, has a set of 20 testers for charging and discharging cycle and BMS functioning. “We can now make 3 V to 1000 V battery packs with sizes varying from 10 cm to 2 m,” Narula said.

At present, the company offers battery pack for two- and three-wheelers, personal and commercial pack in transportation business unit and telecom, UPS, inverter battery pack in industrial and utility battery pack as well as large format ESS.
