In a move that is expected to impart proper training and knowledge to candidates, who enrol at accredited driver training centres, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has notified new mandatory rules that will come into effect from July 1, 2021.

As per the new rules, every accredited driver training centre shall be equipped with simulators and dedicated driving test track to provide high quality training to candidates. These centres should also offer remedial and refresher courses, as per the requirements under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

MoRTH has also noted that candidates, who successfully pass the test at these centres, will be exempted from the driving test requirement at the time of applying for driving license. The driving tests are currently being taken at the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

This, the ministry said, will help drivers in getting the driving license after completing training from such accredited driving training centres. These centres are also allowed to provide industry-specific specialised training.

Section 8 of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 empowers the Central Government to make rules regarding accreditation of driver training centres.
