The automotive industry that evolved in the past century witnessed the invasion of electronics during the last three decades. The rising demand for in-car infotainment, increased comfort, efficiency, convenience, in-vehicle safety, substituting mechanical components with mechatronics, and government regulations to minimise road accidents, drive the need for more electronics systems in the vehicles.

OEMs and system suppliers add more features or catalyse the existing ones by increasing electronic contents. A case in point is the introduction of ADAS – advance drive assist systems that can potentially reduce road accidents. Today an average car has over 40% of electronics content in terms of value, and it is expected to increase to 60% in the future.

The electronic contents can only grow further with the growing adoption of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Electric Vehicles (EV). However, while these initiatives create immense potential for the electronics, semiconductor and software industries, challenges also come along the way in many ways. Some of these include potential safety and environmental hazards such as recyclability and reliability.

What can be the apt solution for the automotive industry while resorting to enhancing electronics content in this scenario? This will be the key takeaway from the webinar on Automotive Electronics, organised by MOBILITY OUTLOOK, with the theme “Electronics – The Efficiency Augmenter.”
