MG Motor Launches Windsor CUV mobility outlook

MG Motor India has launched its latest Windsor CUV, a crossover utility vehicle that promises to disrupt the electric vehicle (EV) market with its unique BaaS offering. The Windsor is introduced at an introductory price of INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) + INR 3.5 per kilometre for battery rental. This model brings in luxury and advanced technology to the EV space, alongside Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model. This BaaS program offers customers the flexibility of paying for battery usage on a per-kilometre basis, theoretically lowering the upfront cost of owning an electric vehicle.

The launch marks a first in India’s passenger vehicle market with the introduction of the BaaS program, which allows buyers to pay INR 3.5 per kilometre for battery rental, making EV ownership more accessible and cost-effective. This model reduces the initial expense of buying an EV, as the battery, typically one of the most expensive components, is leased rather than purchased outright. In addition to the affordable price point, MG Motor India offers a lifetime battery warranty to the first owner, and a 60% buyback guarantee after three years or 45,000 kilometres.

The Windsor CUV is designed to combine the comfort of a sedan with the spaciousness of an SUV, targeting consumers looking for both style and practicality in their vehicles. The car boasts several industry-first features, such as Aero Lounge seats that recline to 135 degrees, a panoramic ‘Infinity View’ glass roof, and a 15.6-inch ‘Grandview’ Touch Display. These elements enhance the driving experience, offering passengers a luxury, business-class feel within the vehicle.

The Windsor EV is equipped with a 38 kWh lithium-ion battery and a PMS motor that generates 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The car’s four driving modes—Eco+, Eco, Normal, and Sport—allow drivers to adjust their ride for different conditions, ensuring both efficiency and performance.

The Windsor also features MG Motor’s i-SMART technology with over 80 connected features and more than 100 voice commands, as well as the MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (MG-Jio ICP), which enables home-to-car functionality. These technologies make the Windsor a smart and connected vehicle, offering a seamless digital experience for drivers and passengers alike.

Parth Jindal, Director of JSW MG Motor India, highlighted the significance of the Windsor as the first vehicle to emerge from the joint venture between JSW and MG Motor. Jindal emphasised the Windsor’s potential to redefine the Indian EV market with its advanced features, competitive pricing, and innovative ownership model.

Rajeev Chaba, CEO Emeritus of JSW MG Motor India, added that the Windsor’s flexible ownership options and user-friendly EV ecosystem would encourage more consumers to make the switch to electric vehicles. Chaba also stressed the importance of addressing the high upfront costs traditionally associated with EVs and highlighted how the BaaS program simplifies the ownership experience.

The MG Windsor will be available in three variants—Excite, Exclusive, and Essence—offering customers a range of options to suit their preferences. It will also be offered in four colours: Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green.
