MG Motor Launches 2022 ZS EV At A Starting Price Of INR 22 Lakh, Ex-Showroom, India

The SAIC-owned MG Motor India on Monday launched the new ZS EV in two trim levels, Excite and Exclusive, priced at INR 22 lakh and INR 25.8 lakh ex-showroom, India, respectively. The Excide trim deliveries will start from July 2022, while the deliveries for Exclusive trim will commence from March 7, 2022.

The updated EV is now powered by a 50.3Kwh battery with IP69K certification, giving it a claimed range of 461 kms on a single charge. Furthermore, the vehicles’ output has been increased to 176 PS with the updated motor, allowing a 0-100kmph time of 8.5 seconds, the company claimed.

Cosmetically, it gets an updated front fascia, featuring a front-covered grill with a charging socket placed to the left of the company’s logo, LED headlamps, DRLs, along with a new 17-inch alloy wheel design, a new bumper and a new tail-light design.

With a focus on the rear seat comfort, the new EV comes with a rear-seat centre armrest with cupholders and centre headrest along with rear air-conditioning vents.

On the features side, it comes with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1 inch HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, five USB ports including two Type-C charging ports, climate control through auto AC, and PM 2.5 Filter along with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

Additionally, it gets i-SMART with 75 connected including Digital Bluetooth key, VR system that offers 100 commands to control Sunroof, AC, Music, Navigation, and more (including 35+ Hinglish commands), i-Call functionality, among others.

Building on the CAAP vision, the EV will also feature on-demand in-car services and subscriptions in the areas of utility and entertainment. In addition, the vehicle will offer services and subscriptions from partners like – JIO, Park+, MapMyIndia, and Shortpedia, a release from the company stated.

On the safety front, it comes with six airbags, a 360-degree camera and hill descent control along with a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and electronic stability control (ESC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) to name a few.

Available in Ferris White, Currant Red, Ashen Silver and Sable Black, the new EV is covered under MG eShield for private customers, wherein the automaker provides a free-of-charge 5-year warranty for unlimited kilometres, eight years or 1,50,000 kms warranty on the Battery Pack system, 24X7 Roadside Assistance (RSA) for five years and five labour charges-free services.

In terms of charging infrastructure, the company has tied up with Fortum, Delta, eChargeBays, Exicom, Electreefi and Tata Power to provide the AC and DC fast-charging stations to the customers.

It has tied up with Attero, Tes-amm and unmicore to recycle the batteries, while for the second use of the batteries, it has tied up with Exicom and Tata Power.

To go net-zero, the vehicle maker has adopted wind and solar power energy to power 50% of its electricity needs at its Halol plant in Gujrat. Chaba noted that the company aims to partner with the startups to push EV adoption in India.
