MG’s first car after the JSW investment will be a new five-seat electric crossover. This vehicle is globally known as the Cloud EV and is already on sale in Indonesia as the Wuling Cloud. We should get the same configuration for the Indian market.
The Cloud EV measures in at 4.2 metres with a wheelbase of 2.7 metres, putting it in the same league as cars like the Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun but with all the space benefits of a born electric vehicle. The battery pack on offer is a 50.5kWh unit with a range of 460km, while the electric motor produces 134bhp and 200Nm and powers the front wheels.
It’s expected to come as one fully loaded model with dual digital displays, Level 2 ADAS, leatherette upholstery, climate control with rear AC vents, connected car technology, and powered front seats. The exterior design points to a futuristic appearance with curved edges, LED light package, and big wheels.
This car is expected to arrive right in the pricing bracket of the ZS EV. By looking at things, it is evident that MG is taking the two-pronged approach to the segment. This segment will see major action at the end of the year, and also in 2025, when Maruti, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra, and possibly even Toyota will make an entry. Each of these manufacturers will bring electric versions of their established brands, and to combat this, MG is taking them on with its two competitors.
