Mercedes-Benz India Launches Maybach S-Class In Two Trim Levels

Available in the locally manufactured S-580 trim and a CBU guise S-680 trim, the limousine has been priced at INR 2.5 crore and INR 3.5 crore, ex-showroom, India, respectively.


Mercedes-Maybach S680

The German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz India, on Thursday launched its flagship vehicle, Maybach S-Class. Available in two trim levels, S580 and S680, the limousine has been priced at INR 2.5 crore and INR 3.2 crore, ex-showroom, India, respectively.

Measuring at 5,469mm in length, 1,921mm in width, 1,510mm in height, and 3,396mm in wheelbase, the new limo features a bonnet with a chromed fin, a Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille with vertical, three-dimensional trim strips, and chrome surrounds to distinct itself from the regular S-Class.

Both the cars feature distinct alloy designs, with S580 getting 19-inch wheels while the S680 getting 20-inch wheels as standard. Additionally, the higher trim level also gets an option for the dual-tone paint with ten different options.

The S580, locally produced at the Chakan facility, will be powered by a 4.0-litre V8 turbo petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid systemthat puts out 496 bhp with 700 Nm of peak torque. The company claims zero to 100 km/h time of 4.8 seconds with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. 

While the higher-end S680 available as a CBU unit will be powered by a 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbo petrol engine that puts out 603bhp with 900Nm of peak torque. It can go from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

The car comes with a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, head-up display with augmented reality, MBUX interface, rear entertainment system comprising two 11.6-inch screens, climate-controlled seats with ten different massage programmes, panoramic sunroof, Active Noise Cancellation, gesture-control assisted by three laser cameras to close the rear doors, 4D Burmester surround sound system along with Level-3 autonomous driving among other features.

Additionally, it also comes with an exclusive chauffeur package that folds the front seats by an extra 23-degrees for increased rear legroom, while the executive rear seats can be reclined further by 43 degrees, along with a host of optional extras to choose from, including champagne flutes and a mini-fridge inside the cabin.

On the safety front, it is aided by 13 airbags, including seatbelt airbags along with active steering assist, traffic sign assist, active lane-keeping assist, active lane changing assist, blind spot assist, and exit warning function. 

Moreover, it also features the Urban Guard protection plus security application that notifies the owner in case of vehicle theft or break-in and can help recover a stolen Maybach S-Class.

Plans For 2022

The company plans to launch ten vehicles in this calendar year, including the Maybach S-Class and the electric sedan EQS which will be produced locally starting Q4 CY22. Alongside, the company also plans to introduce vehicles with BS-VI stage two engines from April onwards.

Last year the company claimed to have retailed 2000 high-end luxury vehicles, including the G-Class and the GLS range.

Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, confirmed that the waiting period for the G-class has reached January 2023, while the GLS Maybach has been sold out till the next year.

He further confirmed that with a strong focus on digitisation and a D2C approach, the company has witnessed 49,000 connected vehicles through its Mercedes Me app.
