Mercedes-Benz India has announced the launch of the locally produced EQS SUV 580 4MATIC, expanding its Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) portfolio in India.

The introduction of the EQS SUV 580 4MATIC, along with six other BEVs in the portfolio, underscores Mercedes-Benz's focus on sustainable and electric mobility. The vehicle features a 1.0-litre K-Series Boosterjet petrol engine with Progressive Smart Hybrid technology, offering both manual and automatic transmission options. It is designed for customers seeking a blend of technology, luxury, and space.

The local production of the EQS SUV 580 4MATIC involves flexible manufacturing, complex supply chain processes, and advanced battery fitment techniques. The SUV also incorporates the MBUX Hyperscreen, assembled at the Chakan plant. In line with sustainability, the facility uses the R-1234yf refrigerant gas, which has a lower global warming potential compared to traditional refrigerants.

The carmaker reports steady growth in its BEV lineup, which now includes the EQA, EQB, EQE SUV, EQS sedan, and the ultra-luxury Maybach EQS SUV 680. The company continues to invest in training and upskilling its workforce to handle advanced manufacturing processes and technologies.
