McLaren Automotive has launched the Artura in India starting at INR 5.51 crore, ex-showroom, India, depending on the exchange rate. Paul Harris, MD-APAC and China, McLaren, noted that the name Artura is a combination of ‘Art’ and ‘Technology’.
Based on McLaren’s next-generation carbon fibre chassis structure, MCLA, the Artura gets powered by a 3.0L V6 mated to an eight-speed automatic generating 585 hp and 584 Nm of torque. The electric motor, powered by a 7.4kWh battery, produces an additional 94bhp and 225Nm of torque, taking the combined power output to 680 PS and 840 Nm of torque. Notably, the supercar can be driven on electric power alone for 30 kms at a top speed of 129 kmph. The vehicle has four driving modes: electric, comfort, sports and track.
The carmaker noted that the all-new platform and the powertrain follow the company's core value - a lightweight vehicle. Matthais Weiskopf, Market Manager- North Asia, McLaren, noted that the vehicle's body is made of supper-formed aluminium pedals while the new flux e-motor has 33% more power density than the P1 hypecar’s electric motor.
The vehicle gets an 8.0-inch vertically-oriented touchscreen with customary features, including Bluetooth connectivity, built-in navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a selection of audio equipment. Other notable features of the car include Clubsport seats, lane departure warning system, track telemetry, E-diff, and variable drift control.
While talking to Mobility Outlook, Weiskopf noted that Artura is likely to be the best seller for the brand in India, given its everyday usability. He added that customer preference in India is shifting towards everyday supercars, and as of now, the McLaren GT has been doing well for the brand in the market.
Harris stated that since Mclaren’s launch in India in November 2022, the company’s sales figures are in double digits and garnered 25% of the supercar market in FY23. Currently, the company has only one retail outlet in Mumbai, handled by Infinity Cars.
