Maruti currently sells 12 CNG models in India

With the lack of a diesel offering to cater to the demand for fuel-efficient vehicles, Maruti Suzuki relies heavily on CNG cars to fill the void. The carmaker, as of July 2024, is yet to deliver 1.64 lakh CNG cars across the country.

Alongside this number, Maruti also added that the sale of CNG cars in Q1 2024 accounted for 1.38 lakh units alone. The number might be fairly big, but you also need to consider the fact that out of the 17 models that the company sells in India, 12 are offered in CNG versions.

The CNG cars sold by Maruti include the Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Celerio, WagonR, Dzire, Baleno, Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and the XL6. The models that miss out on this eco-friendly fuel option include the Jimny, Invicto, Ignis, Ciaz, and the Swift, of which the latter is expected to receive this option soon.

Notably, Tata Motors recently upped the game in the CNG segment with the launch of an automatic gearbox for the cleaner-fuel versions. In the past, the carmaker has also introduced twin CNG tanks to aid storage capacity, and this feature is also expected to be introduced by Hyundai India soon, courtesy of new trademark details leaked last month. It remains to be seen whether the country's largest automobile manufacturer follows suit and introduces either of these offerings with their CNG cars.
