Maruti is finally making its way into the EV segment a year after showing us the eVX concept by announcing that it will debut the production-ready version of the car at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo in January. The car will produced in India for the world but it will make its debut in Europe before launching in Japan and then in India.

Europe is far more mature when it comes to EVs and with Suzuki desperately in need of a fillip for its business on the old continent, this may be just the thing. The budget EV space is burgeoning, despite the many manufacturers rolling back their timelines and this is a space that Suzuki will want to capitalise on in terms of value for money.

The next two destinations of Japan and India are quite straightforward forward with the former being its homeland while the latter is its largest in terms of market share and revenue. This is indicative that we could get the car in the first quarter of FY2026.

In the Indian context, the eVX will be Maruti’s new D-segment electric SUV. It was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo before a second and closer to-production iteration was revealed at the 2023 Japanese Mobility Show. The EV will have a range of around 500km and be a rival for the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Carens EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Honda Elevate EV and the Mahindra XUV.e8.
