India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, on Wednesday announced that it has advanced its annual maintenance from June to the first nine days of May, the company said in a press release.

The company said, as part of the car manufacturing process, Maruti Suzuki uses a small amount of oxygen in its factories while relatively much larger quantities are used by the manufacturers of components.

In the current situation, all the available oxygen should be used to save the lives of the people suffering from COVID-19. Accordingly, Maruti Suzuki has decided to advance its maintenance shutdown, originally scheduled for June to May (between 1st and 9th) 2021. Production at all the factories will close for maintenance during this period.

The company has informed that Suzuki Motor Gujarat has also taken the same decision for its factory.

In the recent press briefing, the carmaker said that it did not foresee any production and sales impact as the central government announced no lockdown. However, it did address the shortage of oxygen in the country.

The company reported a net profit of INR 1,116 crore in Q4FY21, a drop of 9.7% from a year before the figure of INR 1,241 crore.
