India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reported that it sold 33,771 units in the domestic market in May 2021, compared to 13,865 units it had sold in the same month last year.

In terms of total sales, the company sold 46,555 units including 1,522 units sold to other OEMs and 11,262 units of exports apart from the 33,771 units it sold in the domestic market.

It must be noted that the company had witnessed production disruption in May 2020 owing to a nationwide COVID-induced lockdown. In May this year, the company had shut production from May 1, 2021 through May 16, 2021 so as to divert oxygen from industrial use for medical purposes.

Since neither of the two months had normal production, the sales volume of May 2021 is not comparable with May 2020, said the company in a press release.

In April 2021, the company had sold a total of 142,454 units.
