Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Transport Department, Government of Bihar, to automate driving license test tracks in Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Purnia, and Saran.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Sheela Kumari, Transport Minister of Bihar, and Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Secretary, Transport Department, was formalised by Navin Kumar, State Transport Commissioner, and Tarun Agarwal, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Maruti Suzuki.
The Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) will introduce a zero human intervention system, ensuring a rigorous, standardised, and transparent process for license testing, aligned with Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). The high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems will automatically generate test results, marking a significant step toward promoting road safety in Bihar.
Sheela Kumari said, “By ensuring only skilled drivers receive licenses, these tracks contribute significantly to reducing road accidents. Having seen the success of similar tracks in Aurangabad and Patna, we are delighted to expand this collaboration to five more districts in Bihar.”
Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted the company’s long-standing association with the Bihar government. He said, “Our journey began in 2018 with the establishment of Bihar’s first Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in Aurangabad. Since then, we’ve inaugurated ADTTs in Aurangabad (2020) and Patna (2021), and we are honoured to partner again with the Bihar government for this impactful road safety initiative.”
He emphasised the importance of the project, noting that driver skills and knowledge of traffic rules are critical for road safety. Automated testing ensures comprehensive evaluation, reducing the risk of road accidents caused by human error. “With road death rates significantly higher in India compared to other countries, these initiatives will bring about a transformative change in licensing processes,” Bharti added.
Expanding Reach
Maruti Suzuki has automated 27 driving test tracks across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Haryana and is developing 12 additional tracks in Uttar Pradesh. With the addition of five new tracks in Bihar, the company will have automated 44 driving test tracks nationwide.
This collaboration underscores Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to the five pillars of road safety: engineering, education, evaluation, enforcement, and emergency care. By streamlining the licensing process, the company is contributing to creating safer roads while empowering state governments with modern infrastructure to enhance road safety.
As Maruti Suzuki continues to lead in innovative road safety solutions, its partnership with the Bihar government stands as a testament to the transformative potential of public-private collaborations in improving national safety standards.
