Maruti Suzuki India has announced that it has crossed the 2.5 million cumulative export mark. The company began exporting its products to neighbouring markets like Bangladesh and Nepal in FY 1986-87, with the first big consignment of 500 cars shipped to Hungary in September 1987.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “This feat demonstrates Maruti Suzuki’s resolute commitment to the Government of India’s flagship Make-in-India initiative, and furthering Government’s efforts to enhance vehicle exports.”
He added that this was possible because of the strong support of the parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, who provided strong technological support and helped the company leverage their vast global network to achieve this milestone.
A press release from MSIL noted that exports to advanced markets helped the company to benchmark its performance against international standards to continuously improve the quality of products and services offered in the Indian market.
The vehicle maker currently exports to nearly 100 countries, including Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East.
