Maruti Suzuki India Limited has delivered 60 units of the Jimny SUV to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) marking the first time this vehicle has been inducted into the Central Armed Police Forces. The ITBP is tasked with patrolling some of the most inaccessible and rugged regions of India and requires vehicles capable of withstanding harsh conditions. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny with its off-road capabilities and internationally acclaimed all-terrain performance is well-suited to these requirements. The vehicles will aid ITBP personnel in patrolling, border guarding, and troop movement across remote areas, including glaciers, snow-covered mountains, and rocky landscapes.
The handover highlights Maruti Suzuki's ongoing partnership with the Armed Forces, which previously relied on the Gypsy as a trusted vehicle for operations. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, noted that the Jimny's tagline, 'Never Turn Back,' resonates with the courage and determination of ITBP personnel who operate in challenging environments. He added that the Jimny represents the next chapter in Maruti Suzuki’s legacy of providing reliable vehicles for India’s defence and paramilitary forces.
The deployment of Jimny vehicles in such critical roles underlines the increasing trust placed in this model’s durability and performance in adverse conditions. With its compact size, lightweight body, and 4x4 capability, the Jimny offers the manoeuvrability required for high-altitude terrains. Its induction is expected to enhance the operational efficiency of the ITBP. The Jimny follows in the footsteps of the Gypsy, which served as a mainstay for decades.
