In a strategic move aimed at bridging the skill gap in the automobile retail sector, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IES University, Bhopal. The collaboration aims to introduce a pioneering three-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program in Retail Management, beginning from the academic year 2023-24.
The BBA course, jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and IES University, is designed to provide students with a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The curriculum aligns with the specific requirements of the Indian automobile industry and follows the guidelines set by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The program will span one year of intensive classroom training, followed by two years of On-the-Job Training (OJT) at Maruti Suzuki dealerships.
The On-the-Job Training period, a distinctive feature of the program, will be conducted at Maruti Suzuki dealerships in Bhopal. This hands-on experience will allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, enhancing their skills and understanding of the retail landscape. Under the 'Earn While You Learn' model, students will receive a stipend during the OJT period.
Rahul Bharti, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated, 'Aligned with the Government of India's 'Skill India' mission, Maruti Suzuki has initiated a series of robust skill development programs. With this collaboration, our aim is to provide high-quality training, improve students' capabilities, enhance employability, and contribute to the creation of a skilled and industry-ready workforce.'
As part of the broader initiative, Maruti Suzuki has established three Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs), adopted 22 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and partnered with 13 universities across India. The BBA program not only seeks to empower students but also offers placement support to eligible candidates, furthering Maruti Suzuki's commitment to building a skilled workforce for the future.
