Leading Indian carmaker Maruti Suzuki India announced the milestone of setting up 500 driving schools across 242 cities.

Launched in 2005, Maruti Suzuki Driving Schools (MSDS) are set up by the carmaker in partnership with its dealers and have trained more than 1.7 million customers, a press release from the company stated.

These driving schools are equipped with driving simulators replicating the Indian driving conditions and facilitate training through a hybrid curriculum that includes on-road driving situations and classroom training by trainers.

Moreover, the curated training sessions educate customers on appropriate road behaviour, defensive driving, good samaritan law, traffic rules & regulations and a holistic knowledge overview of basic vehicle maintenance and emergency handling techniques, amongst others, the release said.

This apart, MSDS offers customised courses to suit the individual learning needs of each customer and has also collaborated with various corporates, fleet owners, NGOs and jointly conducts programmes to suit their varied needs.

In line with the shift towards digitisation, an exclusive MSDS website and mobile app were also launched to provide an enhanced experience to tech-savvy customers, the company said.

Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India, said MSDS was launched with the core objective of imparting safe driving training and road behaviour among customers to make Indian roads safer.

The MSDS network has around 1,500 certified and qualified expert trainers, imparting safe driving training, he said.

The company aims to expand the MSDS network and train over 2.5 million people in quality driving skills by 2025.
