Big focus on exports

The Maruti eVX, set to be launched at the end of the year, will be the second car to be exported from India to Suzuki’s home market in Japan. The Japanese automaker’s Gujarat plant will produce the eVX for not just India but also for global markets in Europe and the Gulf region.

Unlike what was previously expected the eVX will start life in India before going abroad, it will be launched in parallel in multiple markets to ensure its quick reach. Maruti is late to the EV game and every step it can take to speed up its efforts will go a long way. The eVX will also spawn a Toyota model which will be the production version of the Toyota Urban Sport Concept. This too is expected to be produced at the Gujarat plant.

Concept and rivals

Showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo in initial form and then again at the Japanese Mobility Show in October of the same year, the eVX will be Maruti’s first EV. It will be in the region of 4.3-4.5 meters and be offered with a range of 500km. Rivals are expected to include the Tata Harrier EV, and Mahindra XUV.e8, Honda Elevate EV and the next-gen MG ZS EV.
