MAHLE has been awarded a key contract by MAN Truck & Bus to supply advanced components for the hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX truck. Recently named the winner of the Truck Innovation Award 2025, the MAN hTGX represents a significant leap in sustainable mobility and zero-emission technology within the commercial vehicle sector. The project highlights the growing role of hydrogen as a viable alternative to decarbonise transportation.
The six-cylinder engine features a 16.8-litre displacement and delivers a power output of 513 bhp. MAN plans to produce around 200 units of the truck for selected markets beginning in 2025 positioning it as a critical step toward zero-emission solutions in heavy-duty transport.
Dr Roger Busch, Head of Sales and a member of MAHLE’s Management Committee, emphasised that MAHLE’s innovations meet stringent demands for performance, efficiency, and longevity in hydrogen-powered engines. The company’s hydrogen test centre in Stuttgart has verified the technology’s readiness for series production, demonstrating its robustness and minimal hydrogen leakage, a common challenge in hydrogen engine systems.
MAHLE’s hydrogen power cell unit minimises oil consumption and blow-by, ensuring reliable and efficient engine performance. The Stuttgart-based supplier is currently involved in nearly 30 hydrogen engine projects across various on- and off-highway applications, underscoring its commitment to advancing climate-neutral technologies.
