Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML), India’s leading commercial EV manufacturer, is breaking barriers in the mobility sector with its Mahindra WE (Women Entrepreneurs) Hunnar initiative, launched in July 2024.
Designed to empower women through skill development and financial independence, the initiative has successfully trained and upskilled 245 women, equipping them for careers in driving, customer service, and EV repair & maintenance.
Driving Change
As part of this initiative, 52 women have been trained to drive three and four-wheelers, with MLMML facilitating their licensing process and supporting them in securing loans through financial institutions. By providing access to vehicle ownership and employment opportunities, the initiative is paving the way for greater gender inclusivity in the mobility sector.
In addition to driving skills, 185 women have been trained as customer care executives, while eight women have acquired expertise in EV repair and maintenance. Participants received hands-on training on electric three-wheelers, general EV education, and financial consultation, ensuring a holistic approach to workforce readiness. Many of the programme’s graduates have already secured placements, creating long-term employment opportunities and fostering economic empowerment.
Inclusive Mobility
Suman Mishra, MD & CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, said, “The Mahindra WE Hunnar initiative reflects our dedication to creating equitable access to mobility and livelihoods. By empowering women through skill development and entrepreneurship, we are fostering a more inclusive and sustainable future.”
Initially launched as a pilot programme in Bengaluru, the initiative’s success has prompted MLMML to expand it to other cities, reinforcing Mahindra’s long-term vision for driving positive change under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.
The Mahindra WE Hunnar initiative was conducted in collaboration with Lok Bharti Education Society, MLMML’s training partner, ensuring that participants received industry-relevant training and real-world experience.
