Mahindra Begins Deliveries Of Armoured Vehicles For Indian Army

The Ministry of Defence inked a contract with the company to supply 1,300 Light Specialist Vehicles to the Indian Army in March 2021. The ALSVs are being procured at a cost of INR 1,056 crore.


Mahindra Armoured Vehicles

Mahindra Defence Systems has begun deliveries of the ‘Armado’ Armored Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV) for the Indian Army, which is designed, developed & built in India.

The MoD inked a contract with (MDSL) to supply 1,300 Light Specialist Vehicles to the Indian Army in March 2021. The ALSVs are being procured for INR 1,056 crore, and deliveries will be completed within four years from the start of deliveries.

Army units will use the modern fighting vehicle and also carry Medium Machine Guns, Automatic Grenade Launchers as well as Anti-tank Guided Missiles (ATGM).

The Mahindra ALSV is available in various variants, including six to eight-seater and features ballistic protection up to B7, STANAG Level II and can be used as an armoured protected vehicle for security missions, as a light armoured ambulance, command and control vehicle, light mortar 81/82mm vehicle and as an ammunition carrier for light weapons.

The vehicle features an all-wheel independent suspension and is powered by a turbocharged, 3.2L inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, making 215 bhp and 500 nm of torque. Fitted with a 4/6 speed automatic transmission, the ALSV can attain a speed of 120 kmph and accelerate from zero to 60 kmph in 12 seconds. It can accommodate four crewmembers with battle load, ample stowage space for arms and ammunition inside the crew compartment, and an additional 400 kg cargo load-carrying capacity. The ALSV has 30-degree gradeability, a full GVW parking brake holding capacity, and a 50 km run-flat system on all five wheels.
