Mahindra has officially announced that it has expanded the production capacity for its Thar line of vehicles in anticipation of demand for the upcoming five-door Thar Roxx SUV. The automaker is currently producing an average of 5500 units every month and has said that it is adding an additional capacity of another 4000 units.

Officially, Mahindra has said that it aims to have an exit capacity of 6.4 lakh units by the end of FY25. This means the Thar family of vehicles is expected to contribute over 11 per cent of the projected volumes (petrol and diesel) to the automaker’s overall production numbers by the end of the financial year. This would make it the fourth largest contributor to the automaker’s numbers behind the Bolero family, XUV3XO and the Scorpio N SUV.

The Thar Roxx is expected to fill a major gap for a five-door boxy SUV currently missing in the Mahindra range. It’s got all the right kit but in a more family-oriented package as compared to the three-door Thar and the three-row-only Scorpio SUV. It will make use of the same engine and underpinnings as the three-door model but in the same state of tune as the Scorpio N. Its major selling point will be a big feature list and two more doors. This car will be Mahindra’s answer to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, MG Astor and the upcoming Tata Curvv.
