Mahindra and Mahindra on Monday launched the updated Thar with the range starting at INR 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom, India, for the RWD trim. The RWD range will be offered only with the hard top option.
Although the engine for the 4WD variant remains the same as the earlier version, the RWD gets new diesel and gasoline engines. The diesel variant is powered by a new D117 CRDe engine producing 117 BHP and 300 Nm torque at 3,500 rpm, with manual transmission.
The gasoline variant of the RWD gets the mStallion 150 TGDi engine, producing 150 BHP and 320 Nm torque at 5,000 rpm with automatic transmission. Speaking of the 4WD variants, the off-roader has been updated with an advanced electronic brake locking differential developed in collaboration with Bosch.
While the mechanical locking differential is available as an option on the LX Diesel 4WD variants. Available in two new colour options, Blazing Bronze and Everest White, the Thar now gets new accessory packs comprising exterior and interior styling options offered in four different designs.
A press release from M&M noted that based on the market research, the SUV now gets a front and rear armrest with built-in storage. Besides, the rear armrests will be equipped with cup holders and USB charging ports.
Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, noted that since the launch of the SUV in 2020, it has garnered 80,000 customers so far.
