LG Energy Solution has announced the availability of its advanced system-on-chip (SoC)-based Battery Management System (BMS) diagnostic solutions marking a significant leap in electric vehicle (EV) technology. Developed in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, the new BMS software leverages the high performance of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis, aiming to set new standards in safety, diagnostics, and operational efficiency.
The collaboration between LG Energy Solution and Qualcomm Technologies builds on an earlier agreement to advance next-generation BMS diagnostics. The new system integrates with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Car-to-Cloud Connected Services Platform, enabling automakers to utilise the diagnostic solution for enhanced human-machine interface (HMI) and cloud services. With this joint effort, both companies seek to accelerate the commercialisation of cutting-edge BMS solutions.
This allows the system to support complex algorithms for enhanced safety diagnostics and degradation prediction. Key advancements include the ability to detect anomalies such as thermal issues with greater accuracy and to forecast battery capacity and lifespan with precision. These features enable real-time, on-vehicle analysis without requiring server connections, a critical advancement for modern EVs.
David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution, stated 'It is very meaningful to introduce the industry’s first SoC-based BMS alongside a global leader like Qualcomm Technologies. This collaboration underscores our commitment to delivering differentiated customer value and advancing the EV era through our B.around brand.'
The company recently introduced the B.around brand, which integrates cloud and AI technologies to provide comprehensive solutions for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs). With over 20 years of expertise and 8,000 patents related to BMS, LG Energy Solution boasts a safety diagnostic detection rate exceeding 90% and a degradation diagnostic error rate of approximately 1%, highlighting its technological leadership in the industry.
