LG Energy Solution (LGES) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Doosan Bobcat to jointly develop battery pack solutions for compact construction equipment. The partnership aims to accelerate the electrification of skid-steer loaders, excavators, and other machinery, with a particular focus on key markets such as North America.
The collaboration will involve the development of standardised battery packs that can be integrated into various construction equipment models. The companies also intend to explore further electrification opportunities in related applications, including grounds maintenance equipment like tractors. A key aspect of the partnership will be the application of LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical batteries to Doosan Bobcat’s flagship construction machinery, ensuring high durability and efficiency in demanding environments.
LG Energy Solution’s reputation for technological expertise played a crucial role in forming this alliance. Construction equipment operates in challenging outdoor conditions, often facing extreme temperatures, dust, snow, and rain. As a result, reliability and stability in battery performance are essential. LGES’s cylindrical batteries are known for their high voltage, energy density, and long lifespan, making them suitable for rigorous construction applications.
Doosan Bobcat has been actively investing in electrification, having established a dedicated organisation for this purpose in January. The company now plans to open a research and development centre in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, later this year to focus on battery pack technology and verification processes.
