Chinese automobile brand Leapmotor has officially confirmed its entry into the Indian market by the end of the current calendar year. The Stellantis group, which owns a 20% stake in the company, went on to establish Leapmotor International, with a 51:49 ratio.
Leapmotor plans to bring the C10 SUV to the Indian market, a model unveiled at the 2023 Munich Motor Show. Now, this car has been patented in the country, further cementing the model’s arrival in the local market. The Leapmotor C10 SUV, which is close to the Tata Harrier and MG Hector in terms of dimensions, will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta EV, Honda Elevate EV, and the Maruti eVX upon launch.
The C10 for the Indian market will be largely similar to the global-spec model and will feature sweptback headlamps, LED light bar on the closed-off grille, sleek front bumper, flush-fitting door handles, front door-mounted ORVMs, and a charging port on the left rear fender. It is available with a 69.9kWh battery pack that is claimed to return a range of up to 530km.
Apart from the C10, Leapmotor is also considering the T03 electric hatchback for the Indian market, which will be a rival to the likes of the Tata Tiago EV. The automaker is believed to take the multi-brand approach and share floor space with the Jeep brand in India. Having a shared space in the showrooms and service centres will allow the company to have a more cost-effective approach.
