LANXESS, a global leader in specialty chemicals, has launched its innovative Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, a sustainable rubber additive designed to support tyre manufacturers in producing more durable and environmentally friendly tyres.
The new additive is a sustainable variant of the well-established Vulkanox HS (TMQ) antioxidant, which is widely used by tyre manufacturers to protect their products from the damaging effects of oxygen and heat.
The sustainable version of this additive boasts a carbon footprint reduction of more than 30% compared to traditional manufacturing methods. This significant reduction is achieved by using biocircular acetone and renewable energy in production, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.
Manufactured in an ISCC PLUS-certified plant in Germany, Vulkanox HS Scopeblue maintains the same chemical structure as its predecessor, meaning no modifications are needed to the tire manufacturing process. As a drop-in solution, it allows tyre makers to easily incorporate this sustainable additive into their production processes, helping them meet sustainability goals without disrupting their existing workflows.
The new product is marketed under LANXESS' Scopeblue label, which is reserved for products that offer a particularly low carbon footprint or are made with a high proportion of circular raw materials.
Dr Holger Graf, Head of the Functional Tire Additives business line at LANXESS' Rhein Chemie business unit, commented, “With Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, we have developed another product that enables our customers to manufacture tyres more sustainably and meets the growing demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly materials. This antioxidant not only extends the lifetime of tyres but also reduces their ecological footprint.”
By introducing Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, LANXESS is making significant strides in helping the tyre industry reduce its environmental impact while producing high-performance, long-lasting tires that benefit both manufacturers and consumers.
