LANXESS has inaugurated its India Application Development Centre (IADC) in Thane, Mumbai, marking an expansion of its innovation and customer service capabilities in the country. The new facility, housed within LANXESS House, serves as a technology hub for two key business units and has room for further expansion to support future growth.
Matthias Zachert, Chairman of the Board of Management, LANXESS AG, highlighted the strategic importance of India as a key growth region, describing the IADC as a commitment to delivering market-specific solutions and fostering innovation. He noted that the inauguration coincides with LANXESS’ 20th anniversary, making it a double milestone for the company.

The IADC will support LANXESS’ efforts to develop high-performance, localised solutions, reinforcing India’s position as a critical market for the company’s innovation-led growth strategy. The centre initially integrates two core business areas—Lubricant Additives, which focuses on high-performance additives, synthetic base fluids, and ready-to-use lubricants, and Material Protection Products, which offers antimicrobial, disinfection, and preservation solutions.
The facility will provide advanced testing and research capabilities, including studies on friction and wear in lubricants, synthesis and testing of new materials, and evaluation of antimicrobial performance in paints, emulsions, and water-based chemistries. The goal is to develop tailored solutions for India’s growing industrial and consumer markets, ensuring that businesses benefit from high-quality, market-relevant innovations.
Namitesh Roy Choudhury, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, LANXESS India, described the centre as a strategic step in LANXESS’ transformation into a specialty chemicals company, shifting towards less cyclical business areas and critical applications such as sustainable mobility and consumer protection.
LANXESS has a strong presence in India, employing around 800 people across its operations. The company runs two major production hubs: one in Jhagadia, Gujarat, which focuses on Rhein Chemie, Liquid Purification Technologies, and Material Protection Products, and another in Nagda, Madhya Pradesh, specialising in Flavors & Fragrances.
