Kobelco Construction Equipment India has reached a major production milestone by manufacturing its 20,000th excavator at its Sri City facility in Andhra Pradesh. The plant, which caters to both Indian and overseas markets, has grown into a significant manufacturing centre for the Japanese construction machinery company and continues to support its strategy to strengthen global supply and innovation through local capability.
Takemichi Hirakawa, Managing Director and CEO, Kobelco Construction Equipment India, stated that India is not only meeting domestic demand but also helping Kobelco extend its global reach, and the company remains aligned with the government’s ‘Make in India’ policy as part of its long-term plans.
Kobelco’s facility in Sri City currently has a production capacity of 3,000 excavators per year and exports to more than 16 countries. With a domestic market share of over 25 percent in the high-end excavator segment, the company has established itself as a major player in construction equipment manufacturing. The sustained demand for excavators in infrastructure and industrial projects has enabled Kobelco to maintain steady growth in the region.
Alongside this production milestone, Kobelco has announced the establishment of a new research and development centre at the same Sri City location. The upcoming R&D unit is aimed at supporting advanced engineering projects and adapting products to suit specific market needs. The company stated that this move would help enhance product innovation and strengthen India’s role as a hub not just for manufacturing but also for technology development.
