KG Mobility has signed an agreement with global electric vehicle leaders BYD at its headquarters in Shenzhen, China, marking a significant step in response to the growing eco-friendly future car market.
The ceremony, attended by key figures from both companies, solidified plans for integrating Korean-produced battery packs into the Torres EVX and future BEV pick-up models, scheduled for mass production in the latter half of 2024 and subsequent applicable vehicles.
This strategic collaboration reflects KG Mobility's dedication to electric vehicle advancement, constituting a vital aspect of the company's growth strategy. The close technical partnership with BYD, renowned for its expertise in electric vehicle battery cells and packs, aims to ensure sustained progress and development for KG Mobility.
Before the agreement, researchers from both entities had already initiated joint development on the next-generation hybrid system, intending to broaden the lineup, starting with a Torres-based hybrid model in 2025. Additionally, KG Mobility has completed a restructuring of its research institute to fortify electric vehicle development capabilities and achieve success in hybrid advancements.
Chairman Kwak Jae-seon of KG Mobility emphasised the company's transformation into a mobility-focused enterprise, highlighting the launch of the Torres EVX, which aims to provide safe, cost-effective, and high-performance electric vehicles aligned with customer preferences. He expressed optimism about the enhanced collaboration with BYD, emphasising the reinforcement of the electric vehicle lineup and the future introduction of a dedicated electric vehicle platform and hybrid products.
Reiterating its commitment to customer satisfaction, Chairman Jae-seon Kwak underlined the company's dedication to guaranteeing utmost safety and reliability by integrating battery packs manufactured by KG Mobility. CEO Jeong Yong-won reinforced the significance of the collaboration, indicating the establishment of a robust foundation for stable growth through an extended range of eco-friendly vehicles. He concluded by emphasising the critical role of the partnership in securing future competitiveness, ensuring a stable supply of core components, and the development of cutting-edge electrical/electronic integration technologies.
