Kawasaki India has announced a discount of Rs 40,000 on the Ninja 400. The CBU import was originally priced at Rs 5.24 lakh, ex-showroom and following the discount it now costs Rs 4.84 lakh. The offer is valid till 31 March.
The discount could be attributed to the launch of the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 500 which is priced at Rs 5.24 lakh, exactly as much as the Ninja 400. It is the newer motorcycle and has a bigger, more powerful engine. Naturally, the potential sales of the Ninja 400 would take a hit and hence this discount has been rolled out in the effort to clear existing stock.
The price drop also puts the Kawasaki Ninja 400 in close proximity to the Yamaha R3, another CBU import that’s priced at Rs 4.64 lakh, ex-showroom. In comparison to the R3, the Ninja 400 has the more powerful engine. Its 399cc, parallel-twin engine makes 44.38bhp and 38Nm as opposed to the Yamaha’s 41.4bhp and 29.5Nm.
The Ninja 400’s discounted price does put pressure on the R3 which itself is struggling to get off the shelves at Yamaha dealerships owing to its higher than expected pricing.
In terms of competition, the direct rival to the Kawasaki Ninja 400, besides the Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 500 is the Aprilia RS 457. The Italian motorcycle is the most powerful of the lot and also equipped with more features while being the cheapest, at Rs 4.10 lakh, ex-showroom. This is because the Aprilia RS 457 is made in India unlike the aforementioned CBU imports.
