As against 1,542,716 vehicles (Passenger Vehicles, Two-wheelers, Three-wheelers and Quadricycles) sold in India's domestic market in July 2021, a total of 1,706,545 vehicles were sold in the country during July 2022. This represents a YoY growth of 10.61%.
Total vehicle sales for the April to July 2022 period grew 27.07% YoY to 3,275,256 units against 2,577,474 units in the same period last year. All the numbers have been sourced from SIAM. (June 2022 vehicle sales numbers here)
However, the total vehicle exports made from India fell from 1,878,405 units during April to July 2021 period to 1,856,286 units in April to July 2022, denoting a marginal drop of 1.17% YoY. A total of 474,940 vehicle units were exported from India in July 2021, as against 449,796 vehicle units getting shipped out of India during July 2022, denoting a 5.29% YoY decline in exports.
The three-wheeler (3W) segment was the biggest gainer in India as it registered a 72.76% YoY growth in domestic sales in July 2022. As against 18,132 three-wheeler units sold during July 2021, a total of 31,324 units were sold in July 2022.

What's more amusing is the fact that the three-wheeler segment grew by over 152% YoY during the April to July 2022 period. A total of 42,654 three-wheelers were sold in India during April - July 2021, but the market posted sales of 1,07,617 units of three-wheelers during the same period in the current year.
India's two-wheeler sector also seems to be coming back on track as 1,381,303 two-wheelers were sold in India during July 2022. This represents a 9.62% YoY increase in sales as only 1,260,140 two-wheelers were sold in the country during July 2021. The icing on the cake for the two-wheeler industry came in the form of 38.98% YoY growth in domestic sales during April-July 2022 period. A total of 5,105,836 two-wheelers were sold in India during this period against 3,673,748 units sold in April-July 2021.
The country's passenger vehicle segment grew 11% YoY during July 2022, as a total of 293,865 passenger vehicles were sold in India during July 2022. Only 264,442 passenger vehicle units were sold in July 2021. The PV segment posted 32.24% YoY growth in domestic sales during April-July 2022 period. A total of 1,204,296 passenger vehicles were sold in India during this period against 910,714 units selling in April-July 2021.
