JSW MG Motor India through its community service arm MG Sewa has partnered with Delhi Police and the NGO Pahal to empower 50 women under the 'Wings to Fly' initiative. The programme provides professional driving training, support in obtaining driving licences, and employment opportunities, aiming to promote economic independence among women.
The initiative uses MG Motor vehicles including the Astor and Comet EV to offer hands-on training. The vehicles’ responsive handling has been instrumental in boosting the confidence of new drivers. The programme extends beyond training, offering infrastructure support and fostering healthy driving habits. With 16% of the participants already employed by Delhi Police, the initiative has begun to show tangible results. Additional recruitment interest has been generated from organisations like BluSmart and Surekha, with discussions underway to explore roles in valet services and other driver-centric employment opportunities.
The 'Wings to Fly' initiative seeks to bridge the gender gap in professional driving, providing these women with a sustainable income source. While the success of the programme is encouraging, its long-term impact will depend on sustained support and the scalability of such initiatives.
