JLR has announced a multi-year partnership with Fortescue to integrate Fortescue’s advanced battery intelligence software, Elysia, into its next-generation electric vehicles (EVs). This collaboration aims to enhance its luxury EVs by improving battery longevity, safety, and performance.

This innovative software employs physics-informed digital twins and probabilistic artificial intelligence to monitor and manage battery health, ensuring faster charging, improved reliability, and increased range. Additionally, this technology will support sustainability efforts by facilitating the transition of EV batteries to second-life applications.

The integration of Fortescue’s technology is part of JLR's broader Reimagine strategy, which aims to electrify all its brands by 2030 and achieve carbon net zero by 2039. Fortescue’s own ambitious decarbonisation goals include eliminating emissions from its operations by 2030 (Scope 1 & 2).

This partnership with Fortescue follows JLR’s recent collaboration with Tata Communications in December 2023, which connected 128 global sites with advanced digital capabilities. These initiatives support JLR’s vision of modern luxury and sustainability, as the automotive industry transitions towards electrification.

Thomas Mueller, Executive Director of Product Engineering at JLR, said, this partnership showcases cutting-edge innovation and engineering. Fortescue’s breakthrough battery intelligence software provides JLR with unprecedented access to battery data, enabling the company to monitor and optimise its products in real-time. This ensures that every vehicle meets high standards, enhancing the overall ownership experience.

Mark Hutchinson, CEO of Fortescue, said the collaboration allows JLR to gain detailed insights into battery conditions and make specific recommendations for performance improvements through software updates. It’s a crucial step in supporting JLR’s electrification goals.
