JK Tyre has announced its entry into the premium vehicle tyre market with the launch of the Levitas Ultra range. Available in various sizes, including R17 and R18, the tyres are compatible with vehicles such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar, among others.
Dr Raghupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries, noted that the tyre range has been developed at its Mysore Raghupati Singhania Center of Excellence and tested rigorously in Europe as well as India.
He added that as the shift in the premium luxury segment is shifting towards tyre sizes from R19 to R22, the company aims to introduce more products in accordance with the trend under the Levitas Ultra range.
A press release from the company noted that the tyres are formulated with high-grade MFX polymer, which ensures enhanced durability for Indian roads and stability during hard cornering. In addition, the adaptive contour, a special noise cancelling pattern, and the optimised tread pitch are some of the key attributes of the new tyre range. Interestingly, the tyre range has been rated five stars for fuel savings.
To be manufactured at the company’s Chennai plant initially, JK Tyre aims to start the retails for the tyres in the domestic aftermarket in the early stage through its JK Steel branded stores before moving to international markets.
With sales starting from April 1, 2023, the tyres are expected to cost a bit more than its competitors. The CMD noted that although the numbers in the segment are low, it is expected to grow exponentially in the near term.
“At JK Tyre, we have been focusing on developing cutting-edge technologies and the introduction of these UHP tyres is the outcome of our unrelenting efforts towards excellence. We are confident that Levitas Ultra will become synonymous to high performance among premium car users,” Dr Singhania added.
Amit Gujral, Head- Marketing, JK Tyres, noted that as per a company study, the premium vehicle market has grown by 50% in the past year, and 80% of the sales in the segment have come from vehicles priced between INR 40 lakh to INR 80 lakh.
