ION Mobility & Siemens Drive Electrification With Electric Motorbike mobility outlook

Siemens Digital Industries Software has partnered with ION Mobility to introduce the ION M1-S electric motorbike in Southeast Asia. Utilising Siemens' cutting-edge Xcelerator portfolio, ION Mobility aims to revolutionise the region's transportation landscape, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward electrification. This ambitious project culminated in a state-of-the-art electric bike that promises to redefine urban commuting with its eco-friendly credentials.

Equipped with Siemens' NX software, the ION M1-S was designed and engineered to perfection, from initial styling to the intricate development of its electric battery pack. This comprehensive suite of tools facilitated a seamless transition from concept to production readiness, showcasing the power of digitalisation in modern manufacturing.

With a range of 150 km, a 4.3 kWh battery capacity, and a top speed of 105 kmph, the ION M1-S is not just about performance; it offers practicality with 26 litres of under-seat storage, perfect for the urban commuter. Its rapid recharge time of under three hours is a testament to the bike's design, aimed at meeting the dynamic needs of city dwellers.

Wu Xianyi, COO of ION Mobility, highlighted the rigorous efforts of the design team, who, despite geographical and pandemic-related challenges, brought the M1-S to fruition. This synergy of styling, mechanical engineering, and wire harness design, powered by Siemens' software solutions, ensures that the motorbike not only meets but exceeds the expectations of its target market.

The push for electric mobility is critical in a region where over 200 million two-wheelers contribute significantly to urban pollution. With countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam witnessing a high penetration of motorcycles, the transition to electric models like the ION M1-S is imperative for environmental sustainability.

James Chan, CEO and Founder of ION Mobility, emphasised the company's mission to lead Southeast Asia towards a low-carbon economy through smart, accessible electric vehicles. The use of Siemens Xcelerator technology enables rapid progression from concept to a market-ready product, positioning ION Mobility at the forefront of the electric mobility revolution.

Alex Teo, Vice President & Managing Director of Siemens Digital Industries Software in Southeast Asia, commended ION Mobility's effort to tackle the region's mobility challenges. The accessibility of Siemens Xcelerator is pivotal, offering SMBs world-class tools that foster innovation and drive the region's transition to sustainable transportation solutions.
