The new LWB E-Class, with its advanced technology, India-specific enhancements, and focus on luxury and comfort, is set to augment sales of the OEM’s luxury business sedan segment in India.

All new LWB E-Class

Mercedes-Benz today unveiled the all-new Long Wheelbase (LWB) E-Class, which is the 12th model launch by the carmaker this calendar. The Ex-showroom India prices for E 200: INR 78.5 lakh, E 220d: INR 81.5 lakh and E 450: INR 92.5 lakh and all the variants will be available during the current festive season.

This sixth-generation E-Class, which has been the highest-selling model in the Indian market, strengthens the brand’s sedan portfolio with more than 57,000 units on Indian roads. The E-Class remains the longest-running production car in India, with local production starting in 1995.

The new E-Class LWB sets new standards for luxury, comfort, and technology, introducing features like the MBUX Superscreen and THERMOTRONIC Digital Vent Control. These innovations, along with AI-driven personalised routines, create a fully immersive and customisable driving experience. Designed for luxury seekers, the rear cabin offers unparalleled comfort with reclining seats, extendable thigh support, and a Burmester 4D surround sound system.

Safety is paramount in the new LWB E-Class, with a rigid passenger cell, eight airbags including a front centre airbag, and advanced restraint systems. India-specific adaptations enhance the ride quality and suitability for local road conditions. The model has undergone extensive testing in global markets like Spain and Germany for emission and crash standards, ensuring world-class quality.

Creating Compelling Reason

The all new LWB E-class comes with a host fo features. Key highlights of the model include a suspension system tuned for Indian roads, locally produced glazing materials, and advanced safety features like Active Brake Assist.

The new model introduces several standout features, making it a compelling luxury saloon. The front showcases a radiator grille with a star pattern surface, where a black panel-like surface connects the grille to the headlamps. The grille is three-dimensionally designed with the iconic star at the centre in the Avantgarde line. Inside, the MBUX Superscreen dominates the dashboard, providing a digital experience with a large glass surface extending to the central display. The high-resolution instrument cluster is positioned in the driver’s field of vision, and the main icons on the central and passenger displays are now simpler and color-coded like smartphone tiles.

New Electronic Architecture

The electronic architecture of the new E-Class is now predominantly software-driven, with previously distinct computing domains seamlessly integrated into a unified processor. Similar to high-performance computing systems, this advanced architecture consolidates several electronic control units (ECUs) into a single, centralized zone. This consolidation not only simplifies the system but also significantly enhances overall computing power, delivering a more efficient and robust performance. This networking allows the screens and MBUX infotainment system, among other systems, to share a powerful central computer, improving data stream performance.

Selfie Onboard

A new selfie and video camera, part of the optional MBUX Superscreen, allows drivers to make video calls using the onboard Vivaldi browser, enabling seamless communication on the go. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz has integrated artificial intelligence (AI) for comfort automation, learning the preferences of occupants and automating routine tasks based on usage patterns.

Intelligent Screen

The intelligent passenger screen allows the front passenger to watch dynamic content such as TV or video streaming during the journey, while the driver is protected from distractions. The suspension has been enhanced to cater specifically to rear-seat passengers and Indian driving conditions, featuring agility control steel spring suspension with a selective damping system. This ensures balanced ride comfort and high driving stability by adapting the suspension to different road surfaces.

Sustainability Initiatives

Sustainability is a focus in the new E-Class, with numerous components made from resource-conserving materials, including recycled and renewable raw materials. The seat foam, for example, now uses certified recycled raw materials, which maintain the same quality as those derived from crude oil.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said, the new LWB E-Class once again sets a new benchmark in the luxury business saloon segment, remaining the most desired luxury car in India. With its groundbreaking technology and digital intelligence, the New E-Class is more advanced and personal than ever. Its comfortable driving dynamics, combined with high-quality luxurious interiors featuring the segment-renowned back-seat comfort, “make the LWB E-Class the most compelling choice for any discerning luxury customer.”

Iyer further emphasised the car’s unique standing in India: “Being the only RHD market manufacturing the LWB E-Class globally, we have made multiple ‘India-specific’ enhancements to the ‘Made in India’ E-Class, making the luxury sedan more suited to Indian conditions and customer requirements. The sheer response in terms of ‘Expression of Interest’ puts a huge responsibility on us to deliver to customer expectations, and we are confident the new LWB E-Class will live up to its legacy, proudly carrying the badge of the ‘longest-running production car’ in the entire Indian automotive market.”
