IndiGo is now operating a wide-body Boeing 777 jetliner in airline livery, marking the first such aircraft to feature the Low Cost Carrier’s (LCC) colours. The airline has traditionally operated only two aircraft types in Airbus’ A320 family and ATR regional transports.
IndiGo took delivery of the Boeing 777 earlier this month, and the new aircraft will replace one of its two existing B777s, leaving it with a fleet of two of the type.
The new twin-aisle jetliners will help the airline address the rising demand for international travel from India, besides increasing capacity on these routes while keeping fares affordable.
The Boeing 777 was acquired from Turkish Airlines on a damp lease, defined as a wet-leased aircraft that includes a cockpit crew but not cabin attendants. When aircraft is taken on wet lease, it includes the crew, cabin attendants and aircraft maintenance personnel.

The aircraft currently operate from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul in Turkey. In February, the airline started operating its first wide-body- Boeing 777 aircraft on the Delhi- Istanbul route.
The B777 can seat 400 passengers in a dual-class layout with 376 Economy Class seats and 24 Business Class seats. Passengers flying on these aircraft will also be able to pre-book hot meals. Istanbul is a key international travel hub connecting 33 European destinations via IndiGo’s codeshare connectivity.
Through its codeshare arrangement with Turkish Airlines, the LCC now offers connections to Bulgaria, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Belgium, Hungary, Denmark, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, Malta, France, the Czech Republic, Israel, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, and Edinburgh.
