IndiGo has announced the appointment of Mark Sutch as its new Chief Commercial Officer – CarGo International. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said Sutch brings a wealth of industry experience that would support IndiGo to expand its cargo business further.
IndiGo announced that starting March 1st, its Cargo Business would have two business leaders. Mahesh Kumar Malik, Chief Commercial Officer – CarGo Domestic, will continue leading the domestic market, while Sutch, a British and Irish national, will handle the international market. Malik previously handled both domestic and international cargo operations for CarGo.
In a Linkedin post, Sutch said, “This a very exciting opportunity to grow the share of Indian carriers in the import and export of air cargo in the country. Indigo is one of the largest airlines in the world by fleet and movements and has a growing international network. The recent addition of A321F freighter aircraft to its 300+ fleet sees Indigo Airlines embarking on a new chapter for international air cargo and I am delighted to be part of the team that delivers for the airline as well as Indian shippers and importers.”
Sutch brings 25 years of airline industry experience, and his most recent assignment was as Chief Commercial Officer with CMA CGM Air Cargo based in Marseille. Before that, he was with Cathay Pacific Airways, including being based for five years in Mumbai as the airline’s Regional GM for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. He also previously ran all commercial aspects of Cathay Pacific’s cargo division in their Hong Kong head office.
IndiGo’s first A321 CarGo freighter was inducted into service in November 2022, followed by the second aircraft in December. The airline operated its first domestic freighter flight between Delhi and Mumbai and the first international flight between Kolkata and Yangon in November 2022.
