While Indian cities are adopting electric vehicles at a rapid pace, both the Government and industry are working in tandem to ensure that the ongoing transition ensures inclusive growth and is just and equitable.

BRICS Meet

India’s reliance on fossil fuels will also go down as the country is producing renewable energy from different sources.; at the same time, India is also addressing the circular economy, said Nishant Arya, Vice-Chairman and MD, JBM Group, at the BRICS meet.

At the event held in Johannesburg, he emphasised that start-ups are coming up big, and more than 1,000 such start-ups are in the EV ecosystem. “This is contributing not only to the Indian but also the global green economy. At the same time, India is prepared to pursue sustainable transition cohesively and constructively for all its people,” Arya added.

He said there is an inclusive growth prospect with a lot of focus on skill development. There is tremendous learning, unlearning and re-learning in power, software, railways, renewable energy and many other sectors.

Arya believes that even as Indian cities are adopting electric vehicles at a rapid pace, both the Government and industry are working in tandem to ensure that the ongoing transition ensures inclusive growth and is just and equitable.

On the e-buses side, he noted that about a million tonne of carbon dioxide is cut in the lifetime of an electric bus. Pointing out that electric buses are an outcome of hardware and software, Arya said that the EV downstream and upstream ecosystem, including lithium mining, cathodes and anodes and battery packs, is currently dominated by international companies.
