The Indian Army’s Northern Command has received its first batch of Toyota Hilux - Mountain off-Road Vehicles (MRV). This is the first order from the Indian Army, and the vehicles were delivered in the presence of Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, GOC-in-C Northern Command and V Wiseline Sigamani, Toyota’s General Manager – Strategic Business Unit (North).
Toyota completed two months of rigorous testing in the most inclement weather and rough terrain, including mountainous regions, before the vehicles were deemed fit for the Army.
Powered by a 2.8L diesel engine, the vehicle generates 204 PS and 420 Nm of Torque for the manual transmission variant. It has an Approach/Departure Angle: 0.51 rad/0.46 rad.
From the images shown, the vehicles appear to be in their standard civilian configuration with metallic paint and chrome accessories. In comparison, the Army is taking deliveries of its Tata GS800 Safari Storme 4X4s in a custom configuration with Green paint, recovery hooks, jerry can and fog lamps, etc.
The Indian Army has ordered nearly 4,000 Tata GS800 Safari Storme 4X4s and 3,300 Mahindra Scorpio Class 4X4s. Mahindra announced earlier this week that the first batch of green-coloured Scorpio Classic deliveries had begun.
