Hyundai Motor Company has taken the wraps off the INSTEROID, a bold and imaginative concept car that reimagines its popular INSTER sub-compact EV as a fun, futuristic design statement aimed at deepening emotional engagement with the Hyundai brand.
A portmanteau of ‘INSTER’ and ‘STEROID’, the INSTEROID embodies a youthful, muscular aesthetic, pushing the boundaries of EV design with a heavy dose of creativity and gaming-inspired flair. Based on the INSTER production model, which has seen strong sales in both Europe and Korea since its global debut in June 2024, the INSTEROID brings a new layer of attitude and expression to the urban electric car scene.
Designed to enhance the emotional experience of driving an EV, the INSTEROID is packed with unexpected details—from quirky control buttons and a custom instrument cluster to a striking rear spoiler, large air vents, and even stylised brakes. Everything about the concept car is crafted to evoke joy and curiosity.
Teaser images of the INSTEROID highlight its racing game-inspired styling, including 21-inch wheels, wheel arch air vents, and a bold rear diffuser. The car’s standout Pixel LED lighting adds to its signature futuristic look, while its overall design language makes it feel like a vehicle born from the world of video games.
Described by Hyundai as a “glitch in the automotive matrix”, the INSTEROID blends the visual audacity of digital gaming culture with real-world engineering, offering a glimpse into the brand’s innovative design future.
Hyundai Motor plans to fully unveil the INSTEROID to the public in April 2025, showcasing not just a concept, but a celebration of imagination, youthfulness, and the joy of electric mobility.
